Lady Gaga 'Telephone Analysis'
Analysis:
- Quick cuts and rhythmic editing as Gaga picks up to phone to represent the numerous times she picks up the phone.
- Jump cuts are used to break the song up as well as provide the visual representation of the dancing.
- The colour scheme used in the music video is bright and colourful which matches the upbeat and vibrant nature of the song.
- Close ups are used more for lip syncing whereas wide shots are used more for dance routines, as close ups express the emotion on the persons face and sell their image.
- Also notions of voyeurism are created through a third eye by the use of CCTV which suggests we are watching them without them knowing due to the swaying camera.
- The narrative is set in a prison and shows her release, which the performance is part of with the exception of the dance scenes.
- The music video also contains intertextual references to natural born killers with the killing dinner scene.
