How To Light A Dark Film? Movie Inspiration: Goodfellas (We will be using similar lighting techniques to the opening sequence in Goodfellas). As the scene is outside at night the darkness is already there. Therefore we will only need one main light to emphasise what is going on and to highlight certain characters, but not to bright, as it must be dark enough to create tension and foreshadow something bad is about to happen.
